About us

We are a team of technology professionals designing and building web and mobile apps from our office in central Wellington. We love thinking, collaborating and creating with clients who, like us, want to make New Zealand a better place.

Boost is two designers, six developers, two Agile coaches and a writer, supported by a general manager, account manager, office administrator and sales ambassador. The team is led by Nathan Donaldson, CEO and founder of Boost.

First port of call

James Nicolle
Business development manager

James is responsible for sales and customer success. His strong interpersonal skills and natural problem-solving abilities help us understand what you need so that we can exceed your expectations. Throughout the life of your project, he'll be checking in to make sure you get value from our team and quality from our work.

Gavin Coughlan
Agile lead

Gavin champions our collaborative approach to software development and leads our Agile coaching and training consultancy. A respected Agile thought leader with a bunch of Agile qualifications, Gavin’s spent almost a decade at Boost evolving how we work and developing our Agile mindset so that we deliver maximimum value.

Nathan Donaldson
Chief executive officer

Nathan sees the big picture. He delivers strategy, leadership and R&D at Boost. He’s passionate about improving the way we work in teams, and he's regularly asked to speak and consult on digital relationships, organisational change and Agile and Lean best practices. A founder of Boost, Nathan has worked in IT for over 20 years.

How we got here

We started in 2000 as a two-person company designing and building websites and CD-ROMs. We were motivated by our belief that people deserve products they love to use. We quickly became known for our collaboration with clients, strong concept development and focus on the customer's needs.

Technology doesn't stand still, and neither have we. The industry has evolved, and what we do has changed. However, experience has merely strengthened our founding beliefs and approach to software development.

Today, we specialise in web and mobile application development using collaboration as the means of managing projects and delivering quality. Over time, our collaborative approach with clients has come to influence everything we do as a company, culminating in our certification as a democratic organisation in 2012.

In 2011, after seeing Agile deliver better teamwork, higher productivity and greater business value at Boost, we began training and coaching in Agile and Lean. Drawing on our years of experience managing software projects, we support our clients to build their own capability to deliver better software, faster.

Our partnerships


We have a long-standing partnership with Rally, a leading provider of cloud-based solutions for managing Agile software development. We use Rally's software to plan, track and manage our work effectively. Globally, Rally supports 144,000 users and more than 1,000 customers, including 35 of the Fortune 100 companies.



We are proud to be one of around 50 companies certified by WorldBlu as a democratic workplace, and the first in New Zealand. Being an organisational democracy supports how we work with clients by bringing collaboration into all levels and aspects of our workplace.



We are active in the development and Agile communities in Wellington. We share our experiences and expertise on The Board, a YouTube channel about all things Agile.

From our Wellington office, every month, we run Scrunch: the Scrum Practitioners' Lunch. We also contribute to the Startup scene around New Zealand.

Things we love

We like getting involved in projects close to our hearts. Boost's first freebie project was a website devoted to the magnificent Bucket Fountain in Cuba Street.

More recently we built the WildlifeTracker app for the Kea Conservation Trust to help locals and tourists identify and help protect the iconic and endangered kea.
